Ways homeowners pay for a roof — explained plainly.

Paying for a full replacement
Most homeowners compare an unsecured personal loan against home-equity borrowing. Personal loans are faster and don't use your home as collateral; HELOCs usually cost less but take longer. The lenders below are common starting points.
Paying your insurance deductible
Under Florida law the homeowner is responsible for the deductible. A contractor cannot waive it, rebate it, or provide free work to offset it. Many project lenders have minimum loan amounts, so for a smaller deductible homeowners often use a credit union or bank loan, a HELOC, or a 0% intro-APR card they can pay off in time.
Smaller deductible ($1,000–$5,000)? Credit unions and some online lenders, such as Upgrade, make loans in that range. Check minimums and terms directly with the lender. Read the full guide.
| Lender | Type | Collateral | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| LightStream | Direct lender (unsecured personal loan) | None | Homeowners with strong credit financing a full replacement |
| Hearth | Loan marketplace for home improvement | Varies by offer | Homeowners who want to see offers across a wider credit range |
| Upgrade | Online lender (unsecured personal loan) | None | Smaller amounts, such as a deductible, below other lenders' minimums |
| Your local credit union | Member-owned lender (e.g. PenFed or a Tampa Bay credit union) | None for personal loans | Small deductible loans, often at lower rates than banks |
Listing a lender is not an endorsement or a promise of approval, rates or terms.
Cash or savings
Pros: No interest, no application.
Cons: Draws down emergency reserves.
Personal (unsecured) loan
Pros: Fast decisions, home is not collateral, fixed payments.
Cons: Higher rates than home-equity borrowing; minimum loan sizes often apply.
HELOC or home-equity loan
Pros: Usually the lowest rates.
Cons: Slower — appraisal and closing steps — and the home secures the loan.
Cash-out refinance
Pros: One payment with the mortgage.
Cons: Often a poor trade if your current mortgage rate is low.
Credit card
Pros: Convenient for small amounts.
Cons: High interest unless a 0% intro period is paid off in full in time.
Credit union or bank loan
Pros: Good fit for smaller amounts, such as a deductible.
Cons: Terms vary by institution.
Can I finance my roof insurance deductible?
Yes, through your own lender — for example a credit union or bank personal loan, a HELOC, or a credit card with a 0% intro period you can pay off in time. Under Florida law the homeowner is responsible for paying the deductible; a contractor cannot waive, rebate or offset it.
Does Manolo Roofing offer in-house financing?
No. We are roofers, not lenders. We list outside options homeowners commonly use, and you apply with the lender directly.
Does Manolo Roofing get paid for referring me to a lender?
No. We do not receive a commission or referral fee from any lender listed on this page.
Is a HELOC a good idea for a roof?
It usually carries the lowest rate, but it takes longer to set up and uses your home as collateral. It suits larger, non-urgent projects better than a fast storm repair.
What rate will I get?
Only the lender can tell you. Rates and approval depend on your credit and the lender's current terms, so check directly with them.
